{attack the senses} transitional

Who else is fed up with this bipolar SoCal weather? *RAISES HAND* Last week was blazes hot and this week we  are afraid of spontaneous rain fall. I'm tired and my wardrobe is in a big transitional mess. With all this trouble i have truly learned to embrace and appreciate the power of layering. Allowing me to stay warm in the cold mornings and peel off layers as the day goes on so I'm not sweating like a monkey the while day. (not attractive)

What do you do in transitional weather? Is this what "spring" weather is?

set my ears ablaze.

My car died this past week. Thankfully it was in my driveway sitting there sad and not active. My friends at AAA came and jump started my battery. Wait I haven't gotten to the bad news yet: my car radio requires a code when restarted or the radio won't play music.  !!! I went 4 days without listening to music during my commute & it was a sadlyfe. #firstworldproblems

Anyways let me share some honey for your ears

Really excellent driving music with the windows down, sun roof open, California sunshinee, and blasting vocals by myself.

{attack the senses} the streets are on

Unfortunately for us all the title is not referring to Step Up 2. It is in relation to how much inspiration can be found on the streets. I am blessed to live in LA that is such a huge melting pot of people and talents with Venice as one of the many epicenters for cultivation. All of these shots were taken as I was walking down the boardwalk area as well as around the neighborhoods, and it's so inspiring to see! Inspiration doesn't always have to be found on tumblr or pintrest...

Challenge for this week: go outside if it's not pouring rain and look at your neighborhood. It might surprise you what you find.

{inspiration}

While purusing my daily blogroll reads the other day, I came upon Margaret Zhang's coverage of Prabal Gurung's Fall collection at NYFW, and she credited Bon Duke for her backstage pass that day. Curious-me dug a little deeper clicked on the link and discovered the treasure pit that is Bon Duke's site and works.

Instantly falling in love with his humor (banana vid) and ability to capture flowing movement of the pieces, I tried to find out a little more about this NY fashion based photographer & found this interview of him. As if this aesthetic wonder couldn't get any more inspiring, his take on eating was so refreshing to hear!

After a long week I needed some fresh inspiration.

{attack the senses} music to my ears

After the Grammy's last night I am in a music mood. Adele was the highlight for me last night because I loved her entire 21album, but was disappointed that Mumford&Sons didn't win.

Let that soak in a minute. Folksy, smooth, chill. That's what I am embracing right now in life.

start off the week in a lovely way :)

attack the senses {cheap inspiration}

i love free things. i am chinese. yes, i just stereotyped myself.

to the point, i love when fun and creative art projects cross my path that are just inspiring and cheap enough when i know i have to do them. (bytheway. i am not crafty at all...it's quite sad)

for the past few months i have been "collecting" paint chip swatches because 1. i love the colors & 2. my aspirations of a huger, harder art project have been stewing without action, so when i stumbled across brokeandhealthy's blog post on 50 fun things to do with paint chips i was blown away! check out some of her ideas:

 greeting cards
 embellished shapes
 decoration for your bike tires
"wallpaper"

Aren't they ridiculously clever & look easy enough to do? I guess you can all guess what I'll be doing with my weekend :) i'll be sure to post later how they turn out & let me know if you try any of these or have craft ideas!

BURST

Don't these images of bursting color and imagination just make you want to burst with excitement? :)

Needed an inspiring pickmeup from the reintroduction of academic stress in my life.

attack the senses..revamp

After much thought I concluded that this segment of my blog: weekly installment of 'attack the senses', was pure inspiration as it has always been but the name can be misleading? Perhaps this is just in my mind. I meant for this as a space to share my latest inspirations, things on my mind, and just photos that I think are provoking. This week on my mind: holiday nail designs, missing those summer fruits, and the smallest details that make an outfit unique.

Enough about me, have a happy monday! :)

I've been watching too much Modern Family

attack the senses (THANKSGIVING STYLE)

How was your thanksgiving? :) I had a wonderfully relaxing break as I recovered from the flu-like symptoms that I contracted on monday, but despite my under the weather feelings, the food was still superbly comforting. Anyways, because I'm still feeling the slight after effects of food coma & preparing to eat leftovers for the next few weeks I thought I'd share different leftover recipes that I've found to help us all along with that mountain of partially eaten dishes in our fridges...

I wish I had tried this...

Of all of the recipes I want to try this one the most! fetette blog had the right idea with how to do thanksgiving with these little cupcake cakelettes that seem to be a smart way of controlling portion sizes while getting all the flavors one wants at the same time.

Now these next few recipes are all from one of my favorite recipe blogs, Simply Recipes:
What says post food coma more than some spicy mexican food to speed up that metabolism? Exactly why this Chipotle Turley Pozole appeals so much.

One of my favorite and most classic leftover specials is the open face turkey & gravy sandwich. My dad doesn't cook all that much on a daily basis but after thanksgiving this is his specialty. Good for any cold night while the gravy is hot & the recipe is simple.

The last one comes from the excellent, Epicurious, and relates back to that mixing of flavors with mexican styles by making Turkey Enchiladas. Cheese, enchilada sauce, and turkey? sounds super yums to me!

Hope this has been enlightening to your cooking mind & your leftovers piled in the fridge :)

attack the senses

Winter months = DRY months. I am referring to our skin! Alligator skin is not attractive to anyone, am i right? yes. Included in pasty dry skin are our cuticles which seem to get semi neglected in the winter months, especially if one does a lot of dish washing after those holiday feasts...okay just me. We must protect our nails!

A little nail inspiration from Chanel :) enjoy!

dip.dye.splatter.paint

detailed color explosion on the pant leg of Margaret Zhang's Ginger&Smart playsuit
Looking at these for the past week have diverted my attention from the human anatomy to my black trousers that now look like they could use a new paint job. Needless to say I've been distracted from my school work.

Inspiring hair from stylesight makes me want to dip dye again
After chopping off all my ombre'd hair last week I am having issues letting go of the look. Should I just do the standard ombre of my natural color? Or do I go bold & finally purple my hair? decisions. decisions.

Point of this story is: someone get me some paints & let's get crazy!

attack the senses

Don't you just hate it when your internet goes out? I know! me too.

Apologies for this slightly late installment but thank you for bearing with me :) In return I offer detailed inspiration for this upcoming week.  remember, It's the little things (did you like that not-so-subtle tie in? hehe )

Isn't that the most beautiful combination of hard metal with loose blouse? perfection.
I know I'm starting to get overwhelmed with school when my throat gets scratchy, my notes become illegible, and my hand is in a slight constant pain from taking notes. Enough about me, how are YOU doing? Hope this week is shaping up well for you.

Do you have questions for me? shoot them this way! I am in the mood to send some love your way
